Axiom is not used to being around other people. He's generally very kind, and doesn't mind chatting with others for a short time, but tends to forget how to be "normal". He'll talk to himself a lot and just say anything without thinking about how his words might affect others.
History:
Many years ago, the Nightwings had found where Sunrise was buried. Like everything else, they kept this knowledge to themselves, while they tried to figure out what to do.
There had been minor earthquakes in the area, and they thought the ancient dragon was waking up, so they sent one dragon to live in the desert, so when Sunrise returned, that dragon could tell him where their tribe lived, and convince Sunrise to help their tribe to become powerful again.
It was a position of honour. He'd be one of the tribe's greatest heroes.
Axiom regrets agreeing to go.
The caves he lived in weren't terrible. He was well hidden, and had everything he needed.
But no other Nightwings were allowed to stay with him, and Axiom couldn't be around the other tribes for too long either, or else they might chase him off, or try to kill Sunrise while he still slept.
It was lonely, but Axiom told himself it'd be fine. At most he'd only be there for a few months or years, and then he could go back home to his friends and family.
At some point, he's not sure when exactly, Axiom had found a scroll, with strange things written in it. After studying it, he guessed it might have been Sunrise's scroll, and decided to test it by writing down his own spells.
"Make me immortal."
He didn't think it had worked. When he injured himself he still felt pain and bled like a normal dragon. Axiom never realised that he had stopped aging at this point, he just thought the scroll was a fake, or something else was wrong with it, and left it back in the desert for someone else to find.
He's lost track of time at this point. Axiom thinks at most he's lived there for 10 years, not over 400.
