Akoya had already had a long day by only noon. Teaching hatchlings Aquatic was more frustrating than she remembered, and then one of them had spilled ink on one of her papers, and that was an hour of her day gone. And then there had been Squid swimming in like her life depended on it, with some strange hybrid. And although the SeaWing dragonet had been flashing Aquatic at the hybrid, they barely seemed to get a word. So that was tiring.
Shaking herself off under the water, the dragon carefully began organizing her desk, setting the ink in a place that was less likely to be spilled in the future, as well as setting a pen on the desk. And with a quick glance at what time it was, Akoya decided she had enough time to scribble something more down- '10.10.5012- Odd SeaWing hybrid escorted into Deep Palace by young SeaWing named Squid.' Thinking for a second, the scholar dipped the squidink pen back into its bottle and continued writing in her signature spidery writing, almost illegible to anyone other than her.
'Odd hybrid seemingly unable to speak Aquatic, and has bright red Aquatic-scales. Normal scales bright green, and doesn't have wings- has odd wing-buds instead. The muscle is there, just not the wing itself. I want to study them, see how it works. I doubt it'll happen, but maybe Marina will let me?' Akoya smiled at her name- the Queen would likely be dealing with this hybrid right now, so maybe she could convince Marina to let her study them. For a while. It'd be harmless, just Akoya's drive to know how this dragon worked was almost stronger than respect for her Queen.
'Fins are yellow, and has antenna- what kind of hybrid are they? Clearly not one that I've ever seen- research needs to be done into wingless dragons.' That should do it for now. Akoya set down the pen on her desk as she moved her light slightly, her wings emitting a soft glow as she began to tidy her room- which at the moment was full of papers. Picking them up, reading them quickly, and then setting them in the appropriate piles was a comforting thing for the dragon. She was surrounded by papers, not being bothered by Father about getting a mate or by Mother saying that she couldn't succeed as a researcher. Or any of her sibings- they were all at the Summer Palace, if she remembered correctly. And they were guards, rarely seeing any dragons other than other guards, while she was here, seeing a hybrid of a new species discovered.
You've outdone yourself today, Akoya. The SeaWing smiled at her newest research. And then a thought crossed her mind, and she picked up the scroll again as well as her pen. A rough sketch of the hybrid was drawn on her paper, as well as quick labelling as to what everything was on the dragon- from scale colors to the wing-buds. All, of course, in the spidery and scrawled handwriting that so few could read consistently. She ought to work on that- but that would be another day. Right now, she had things to do.
Breathing in a sigh- or at least, as close as one could get in the Deep Palace- the SeaWing placed the newest paper on a stack and left her room, wings still glowing faintly. She darted through the hallways to the throne room, where a guard stopped her with a quick flash of Aquatic- "The Queen is in a meeting." They knew very well who Akoya was- she'd taught a good portion of them Aquatic, and knew how close she was with the Queen. Akoya gave a nod at the guard- Urchin, if she remembered correctly- and floated there, swimming in idle circles while talking with the guards about the hybrid- she always wanted second perspectives on her observations, and she was delighted that they were willing to converse. Not like she was doing much at the moment.
